Meet The Owners
Thank you for visiting our website. We are Kathy and Rick, the owners of Madison Nature Getaway at Abend Hafen Tree Farm. We wanted to take a moment and share a little more about ourselves.
We enjoy nature, wildlife photography and camping in our little vintage camper. Rick is the President of the Friends of Blackwater NWR, Vice-Chair of the Maryland State Tree Farm Committee and Secretary of the Dorchester County Forestry Board. We were honored as the 2014 Maryland State Tree Farmers of the Year. In 2018 we were chosen as Chesapeake Forest Champions as exemplary forest stewards by the US Forest Service and Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay . We both volunteer with the University of Maryland Extension service as Maryland Woodland Stewards.
We recently traveled throughout California and Arizona, which were awesome! When we travel, we like road trips and getting off the main roads. That's where the real adventures are.
Kathy is a true farm girl who drives tractors, operates a backhoe and enjoys splitting firewood. She also creates beautiful cakes, is a seamstress and an artist. She's very excited about hosting painting classes in her greenhouse studio on our farm. Gardening is also one of her passions.
We maintain a joyful spirit on our farm, and our motto is "If not now, when? What are you waiting for?"
